Living in Presence
In this retreat, we will engage with the experience of meditative presence. This can be described as a feeling of peace, fearlessness, freedom, clear-seeing, wisdom, and love. We sense presence when our minds and hearts are unobscured by fear, craving, hatred, confusion, divisiveness. In presence, we have, at least temporarily, broken out of our self-centred cocoon, our conditioned habits of mind. We will explore teachings, practices, and exercises that support the emergence of presence.

Cost: $185, payable in full by September 15 with the completed registration form. Participants usually have a private room with shared washroom facilities. However, if there is high demand for this retreat, some participants may be asked to share their room. The cost for this retreat is payable by cash, cheque, money order, or Interac (Paypal is not an option.)
Scholarships: If payment of the full fee causes financial hardship, scholarships are available. A scholarship is partial payment by WIMG to support the path of those who may not be able to pay the full cost on their own. Scholarships are one way dana is made available and put to good use for the benefit of all. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to request a scholarship. All inquiries are confidential.
Spaces are limited: This retreat has room for up to 24 participants to have private rooms. We will consider adding more spaces if some participants are willing to share a room. Please register and submit payment as soon as possible to better ensure your participation. Once registration is full, a waitlist will be started.
Schedule: Retreat check-in will begin at 6 pm on Friday, September 28 with orientation happening at 7:00 pm. The retreat will end at 2:30 pm on Sunday, September 30. There will be scheduled periods for walking and sitting meditation.
Retreat leaders: Most practice sessions will be led by Nelle Oosterom, Chair of Winnipeg Insight. Nelle has trained with many dharma teachers, including Sharda Rogell of Spirit Rock, whose guidance she has been receiving since 1997.
Mindful movement exercises will be led by Kurt Schwarz, a longtime meditator and dharma practice leader who is a certified Spiritual Health Practitioner.
Practice discussions: Participants will have the opportunity to schedule 15-minute private practice discussions with Nelle or Kurt upon request.
Noble silence: Participants are asked to hold the retreat in silence, except for practice discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and other necessary communication. Cellphones are strictly prohibited outside of private rooms and should be turned off.
Carpooling: Indicate whether you need a ride, or can provide one, on your registration form.
Dana (Generosity): The cost payable for this retreat will go directly to St. Benedict’s to cover facility rental, rooms, and meals. ‘Dana’ is the Pali word for ‘generosity’ or ‘giving freely.’ In keeping with tradition, we will be accepting dana for WIMG and this will be used to cover ongoing operations and help make participation in future retreats possible for everyone. Dana will be accepted by cash, cheque, money order, or Interac prior to or at the end of the retreat.
How to Register:
Please register online with the form below. Completed online registration forms and payment must be received by September 15th. You should receive a confirmation of receipt by email as soon as your registration form is submitted. Once payment is received, your registration will be confirmed.
