Dharma Practice Leaders

Nelle Oosterom:

Has been practicing Insight Meditation for two decades. Had participated in meditation is retreats in Canada and abroad in Nepal, Thailand, and India. Most years spends a week on retreat in Saskatchewan with her favourite teacher, Sharda Rogell of the Spirit Rock Meditation Centre in California. Has taught occasional courses on meditation, and organized past retreats in Winnipeg and  helps lead the Winnipeg Insight Meditation Group. 


Thomas Steur:

Is an Occupational Therapist specialising in mental health who works with community dwelling and homeless adults. Thomas has been practising Insight Meditation since 1996 after exploring other meditation traditions. He is currently working toward a Master of Science degree in Community Health Sciences, with a research interest in clarifying our understanding of human distress. Thomas’s daily practice includes washing dishes and tending to tiny physical, emotional, and spiritual crises.  


Kurt Schwarz:

Is a certified Spiritual Health worker with a specialization in mental health and addictions.   He received training as a yoga instructor from the Esther Myers Yoga Studio in Toronto in 1998.  Since then, he has studied with a number of meditation teachers and has explored contemplative traditions within Christianity, as well  as Buddhism. He completed a 2 year on-line course on Buddhism two years ago.  He has been a Dharma practice leader within the Winnipeg Insight Meditation group for the past 6 years.

Kurt  has published Moving Into Stillness - On Finding Meaningful Activities That Nurture and Sustain The Inner Life, available at McNally Robinson booksellers in the meditation/mindfulness section (ISBN: 978-1-928169-62-8).


Marc Forest:

Has been practicing Meditation for over 35 years. Has participated in Vipassana meditation retreats in Canada, United States and Asia.  Most years Marc spends a minimum of 4 weeks on retreat. Marc follows and learns from many teachers including, Joseph Goldstein, Gil Fronsdal, Andrea Fella, Andrew Olendzki,  Steve Armstrong, Sayadaw U Tejaniya, Ajahn Sumedho, Bhikkhu Bodhi and Analayo.   Marc has recently completed 96 weeks of study on 3 different Sutta Study Programs.  Currently working on completing a 12 week program offered by Barre Center for Buddhist Studies - Entering the Path.  Marc continues to mature and cultivate his commitment to The Buddha, The Dharma and The Winnipeg Insight Meditation Sangha.
